Happy March everyone, and (almost) spring! With it being just a few days away from spring, I am going to share a few tips on how to freshen up your home to give you that fresh spring facelift!
So, first things first, d e c l u t t e r! I know it is wayyy easier said than done but trust me, and give your home the respect it deserves! Make a place for everything and organize your day-to-day items in a designated area. Once you do this, it will allow you to see the potential in your space!
so now what?
I like to take inventory of what makes me happy in my home and what does not! So, emphasize on the areas or certain items that make you happy in your home and go from there. For example, if you have a console or a table passed down from generations that is meaningful, place a pretty vase with flowers in and candles scattered on either side.
As for the areas / things that do not make me happy, I do one of two things: 1. avoid it (because why take the harder route?) or 2. attack it. In this case, I am going to tell you how you can “attack” the things that just aren’t cutting it.
If it is a room or hallway that you can paint, try freshening it up with a bright, uplifting coat of paint, see below for our favorite paint colors here at DECA! Try adding a couple of picture frame shelves the length of the freshly painted wall and frame your favorite photos or prints and lean them against the wall! You could paint the picture frame shelves the same as the wall, a couple shades darker or even stain them. I love this idea because you can constantly change up what is in the frames and you can totally make it what you want!
How about your bedroom, bathroom or family room? One trick that I do that never ceases to amaze me is taking fabric swatches and frame them. Sounds weird right? But actually, it turns out super cool! For solid fabrics that I have, I cut them up into a couple different pieces and patch them back together in the matted frame so it is a framed patch of fabric! It gives a very unique pattern and texture. I tend to choose matted frames because it emphasizes the subject and is bigger and better because, go big or go home right?! For pattered fabrics, I normally do not cut them up and just place them in the frame and hang them in groups of three. If you do not have access to fabrics, take old sweaters/clothing pieces and see how they would look in a frame! Believe me, it looks so interesting!
The last piece of advice that I have for your spring facelift, is to change up your table setting! Fun new placemats, napkins and napkin rings can make a big difference. I think that napkin rings say something about your personality, it is a way to add a fun touch to your home that isn’t “in your face.” I tend so change up my table setting seasonally because obviously my winter themed placemats will not make sense in spring!
I hope that these little tips and tricks can bring inspiration to your spring facelift! If you go through with any of my advice be sure to share on instagram or facebook and tag @decainteriorsinc!
